Summary: | July 18, 1931. East Greenland. Myggbukta, Mackenzie Bay, Hudsons Land. Hut, flagpole and wireless station: This is where Hallvard Devold, Thor Halle, Ingvard Storm and Soren Richter raised the Norwegian glag, June 27, 1931 and took possession of the disputed East Greenland territory between Carlsberg Fjord (Lat. 71 30' N.) and Besselfjord (Lat. 75 30' N.) and named it Eirik Raude's Land: By act of the State Council on July 12, 1931, the Norwegian Government took possession of this territory. The Louise A. Boyd Expedition aboard the S.S. Veslekari, reached here July 17, 1931 -- the first ship to reach the east coast of Greenland that summer and the first, so far as known, to reach Myggbukta that early. All the men were there except Richter, in whose place was Eiliv Herdal. On extreme left: cages with live foxes - blue and white. See aerial K-10 no. 7-5. Photo looking NW.
