British Admiralty chart no. 260. This map was published as the endpapers in Robert A. Bartlett's book, "Sails over ice" (1934). The book is a collection of stories about this "old salt" and his adventures in the Arctic with his amazing schooner. After 1933, Bartlett made twelve additional voyages into the Arctic with the Effie M. Morrissey (Horwood 1977, p. 183-184). The Morrissey was rebuilt in 1948 and renamed the Schooner Ernestina, beginning a new career as a trans-Atlantic packet carrying passengers and goods between Cape Verde and the United States. Presented as a gift to the United States from Cape Verde in 1982, the vessel remains as a sailing school ship and living history museum in new Bedford, Massachusetts. It iss designated by the Daperment of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark (http://www.ernestina.org).
