The ongoing role of the International Whaling Convention (IWC) is examined in the context of Article 65 and with reference to other important general environmental principles that have evolved. Specific requirements arising under Article 65 are examined, the establishment and development of North Atlantic Marine Mammal Commission (NAMMCO) are described and its present and potential status is analysed under the terms of Article 65.
