Traditional approaches to manufacturing systems do not fully satisfy this new situation. In order to deal with this problem, Small-scale Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (SIMS) is introduced. This report summarizes the SIMS’ concept, component, tools, execution, challenges and trends. Finally, based on the evaluation and analysis of the existing workshop in UiT Narvik, a proposed study has been formed for the transformation from current workshop to the SIMS workshop.
