Antarctic sea ice performs important roles inthe climate system through the formation of denseoxygen rich Antarctic Bottom Water (Johnson 2008)and modulating fluxes across the ocean/atmosphere interface within the high southern latitudes (Bourassaet al. 2013). It also acts as a buffer for ice shelvesagainst ocean processes (Williams and Squire 2007;Massom et al. 2018).
