Summary:The international GEOTRACES program has its flying start in the International PolarYear. The unique quasi-synopsis of IPY-cruises with GEOTRACES issues in the Arctic(D/NL Polarstern Spain-ATOS Japan-Geotraces; and upcoming CAN-Geotraces)and Southern Ocean (FR-Bonus Goodhope NL/D-Zero & Drake Australian-SR3 andSAZ-SENSE American-IS6 CLIVAR Japan-Geotraces and upcoming Spain-ATOS2) has the potential to provide new insights into a wide range of ocean processes anddynamics in Polar Oceans. An overview of these cruises and preliminary results will bepresented, keeping with the IPY-GEOTRACES cluster (IPY #35 H. de Baar). Moreoverthe intercalibration efforts during the IPY-GEOTRACES program will be introduced.
