Summary:Precocious sexual maturation of male Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) was induced by photoperiod manipulation to shorten the time required for optimisation of sex inversion treatments. Exposure to a short-day photoperiod (8L:16D) prior to the summer solstice reduced the time to completion of sexual maturation from 3 years to 8-9 months for the majority of fish. 2004 Kluwer Academic Publishers.
