Herewe present a short overview of (1) the Antarctictourism status quo during the COVID-19 pandemicand (2) a SWOT analysis of the future challenges andopportunities COVID-19 poses for those operating insuch a remote wilderness area. We suggest that thepause in Antarctic tourism caused by the pandemicoffers a unique opportunity to consider a moreadaptive model of Antarctic tourism managementrather than return to business as usual.
