The second parts of these sentences are bound to the first parts through unmarked, loose co-ordination. The reason for this kind of connection lies in the nature of Khanty narration. It is a characteristic feature of a Khanty story that the events are shown from the hero's point of view who is in constant motion. The speaker and the listener both imply the structures [he sees that], [he hears that], yet these are only present explicitly when the sentences reflect obvious Russian influence. Therefore the semantic structures of the verbs 'look' and 'listen' markedly include the features 'see' and 'hear' expressing perception.
