Tema ovog završnog rada je usporedba dva sustava za upravljanje bazama podataka, MySQL-a i PostgreSQL-a, koji su jedni od vodećih na tom tržištu. Rad obuhvaća same početke dva sustava, odnosno njihov nastanak. Kratko su predstavljene nove funkcionalnosti i značajke u zadnjim verzijama sustava kao i poboljšanja. Najveći dio rada se temelji na usporedbi metoda replikacije, značajki sigurnosti, performansi, rada u okviru SQL standarda te načina za sigurnosno kopiranje podataka i povrat podataka. Iznesene su neke od najnovijih metoda i jednog i drugog sustava te pojašnjeni načini na koje funkcioniraju. Veliki dio literature je sa službenih stranica te je sve preneseno objektivno na način na koji su sami autori sustava opisali pojedine alate i značajke. Zadnji dio rada se odnosi na stanje na tržištu te popularnost dva sustava po jednoj od najprihvačenijih stranica za takvu metriku, DB-engines. Na kraju, u zaključku, uzeto je u obzir sve izneseno te ukazano na očite prednosti i mane dva DBMS-a. The topic of this final paper compares two database management systems, MySQL and PostgreSQL, which are one of the market leaders. The paper covers the very beginnings of the two systems, ie their origin. New functionalities and features in the latest versions of the system as well as improvements are briefly presented. Most of the work is based on a comparison of replication methods, security features, performance, work within SQL standards, and methods for data backup and data recovery. Some of the latest methods of both systems are presented and the ways in which they work are explained. Much of the literature used is from the official website and everything is transferred objectively in the way in which the authors of the system described certain tools and features. The last part of the paper deals with the market situation and the popularity of two systems according to one of the most accepted sites for such metrics, DB-engines.
