Maitrise We present the first gas analyses of CO2 , CH4 , CO and N 2 O in the Antarctic firn at the Lock-In site located at 136 km from the French-Italian Concordia station. For this twenty firn air samples were collected from the surface to 108 m depth. These samples were analysed using a OFCEAS (O...

For this twenty firn air samples were collected from the surface to 108 m depth. These samples were analysed using a OFCEAS (Optical Feedback Cavity Enhanced Absorption Spectrometry) spectrometer. We first prepared atmospheric scenarios for CO2 and CH4 that we used in a direct model in order to calculate a gas concentration profile in the firn. This concentration profile was forced to CO2 and CH4 measurements in an inverse model in order to calculate the firn diffusivity. This diffusivity allowed us to infer age distribution in the firn. We were able to date the air in deep firn : 100 years. By linking this age concentration profile, we could show that differences in concentrations between the top and bottom of the firn are due to human activity during the last century.
