A Test -study on the Water Vapour Balance in the Atmosphere over the North Atlantic Ocean

In this study the data of 10 days of Jan. 1957 were analysed to examine the validity of water vapour balance in the atmosphere. It is demonstrated that precipitation over the North Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by the continents with the sufficient number of observation stations along their coastal line, can be estimated from the consideration of the energy balance among evaporation from the sea surface, transport of the atmospheric water vapour, and the precipitation. The estimated precipitation distribution was compared with the low cloud distribution which may be considered to be a fairly good indicator of precipitation. And also the relationship between precipitation and the mean vertical velocity on the 850 mb, 700 mb and 500 mb was examined. It is concluded that the precipitation has a close relationship with the low cloud amount, but a meaningful relation between precipitation and the mean vertical velocity was not detected. 紀要論文 http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501
