IN THIS WORK A METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF EEL LOCAL STOCKS AT THE CATCHMENT SCALE AND FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE BIOMASS OF ESCAPING MATURE EELS WAS SET UP. THE REFERENCE SYSTEM IS THE BOLSENA LAKE WITH ITS EMISSARY THE RIVER MARTA THAT IS A NATURAL GROWING HABITAT FOR EEL BUT FRAGMENTIZED BY SEVERAL DAMS AND AN IMPORTANT FISHERY SITE. TWO SAMPLING CAMPAIGNS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT ONE TO ASSESS EFFECTIVENESS OF RESTORATION INTERVENTIONS FOR EEL COLONIZATION AND ESCAPEMENT IN THE RIVER MARTA AND THE SECOND TO CHARACTERIZE THE DEMOGRAPHIC AND GROWTH FEATURES OF THE LOCAL POPULATION IN THE BOLSENA LAKE. ACCORDINGLY A DETAILED DEMOGRAPHIC MODEL WAS DEVELOPED TO ALLOW US TO REALISTICALLY SIMULATE THE FISHERY YIELDS AND SILVER EEL PRODUCTION UNDER DIFFERENT RECRUITMENT AND MANAGEMENT SCENARIOS (SCENARIO A B C???). THE SIMULATIONS YIELDED BY THE MODEL GIVE INTERESTING RESULTS CONCERNING POTENTIAL ESCAPEMENT FROM THE LAKE (ESTIMATED IN 36,7 T OF SILVER EEL BIOMASS). IN CONTRAST THE ACTUAL LEVEL IS ESTIMATED IN 23,7 T MORE THAN 60 % OF THE PRISTINE LEVEL.
