Monitoring of snow water equivalent and snowmelt through space-borne synthetic aperture radar techniques

This work aims to consider the use of different SAR operating at X-, C- and L-band in order to improve the monitoring of snow covered areas and soil in Alpine areas. A preliminary dataset of X-, C- and L-band is acquired and analysed in order to exploit the potentialities in snow and permafrost moni...

Description
Summary:This work aims to consider the use of different SAR operating at X-, C- and L-band in order to improve the monitoring of snow covered areas and soil in Alpine areas. A preliminary dataset of X-, C- and L-band is acquired and analysed in order to exploit the potentialities in snow and permafrost monitoring. The intensity and phase of the SAR signal at different frequencies shows sensitivity for estimating Snow Water Equivalent and permafrost characteristics.
