For your letter of the 11th inst. is the fist I have received from you since I got home from my big ramble. Now that the fine avenue house is sold you must all come to California as soon as you can, build your next home here & be my neighbor. Then we can grow old or young handsomely together. The High Sierra will be our glorious back yard, the Pacific our pond where we can sail when we like-, to Alaska for icebergs & glaciers & fresh air, To the Andes for exercise & noble aboriginal Araucaria forests - To South Africa & Madagasear for giant Baobabs & back by India for another look at the Himalaya & deodars. etc etc-I congratulate you on having now all the world for a house, & yet I can't help feeling a little sad at the loss of the avenue home, the only home I ever had in Chicago.I'm puttering a little with my pen trying to write another book & have planned five others. When if ever I can get any of them off my hands I dont know. It seems hardly worth while to waste so much precious time on them. With love to you all, & sympathy for the sick mother I am ever faithfully yoursJohn Muir Text glaciers Alaska University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law: Scholarly Commons Pacific
