June 21, 1898.Dear Mr. Muir,I have been hoping to receive at least one of the other papers that are yet to come front you for the Atlantic--- by this time, but we are always so glad to get what you send that we can never afford, and are indeed never disposed, to be impatient.I write you now not only to express a hope that the next article will soon be on its way to us, but especially to inquire about the possibility of bringing out one of the several volumes by you about which we have exchanged letters--about bringing it out this fall. Please tell me if your contributions to the Atlantic, including those which we have already published and one or two more which we expect, together with the articles that the Century has published from you since your book came out would not make an attractive volume. In addition to the articles that have appeared in the Atlantic, I notice that the Century has contained the following: June '95, The Discovery of Glacier Bay, August' 97, The Alaska Trip,Sept. '97, An Adventure with a Dog and a Glacier. (A Tale of Alaska.)Or, ought these Alaska articles to go into a volume that should be devoted especially to Alaska? What I am driving at, you observe, is to get out a volume as soon as practicable, in which good resolution I hope for your hearty co-operation.Very sincerely yours,[illegible]John Muir, Esq.02434 Text glacier Alaska University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law: Scholarly Commons Glacier Bay |
