Well 'I con clude that the Arctic expedition has been abandoned by you for this time at least, as we have heard nothing of it, and I am glad.We are hoping to see Annie sufficiently improved this summer to be able to make the long trip to you in the Fall. Poor girl she is very far from well but the prospect is encouraging for her.We are all as usual, and are hoping to hear from you soon I [illegible] your busy time is again upon you. May 5, 1884 Dear Brother John;As you see from my date, I have at last made the journey to this place, and I am [stuck out] happy to say that I accomplished it with comparative comfort.I left Maggie just one month ago today, on a bright sunny day and went to Lincoln where I stopped with Dan. until the 9th when I re- sumed my journey and reach this place the same evening _it being just a days journey- [2]In the morning when I left Lincoln the [morning struck out] day promised to be fine but soon after starting changed and about 22 o'clock a snow storm set in, and we were fairly pelted with snow until vive - think of that on the 9th of May, and in Missouri.Well [illegible] to Lincoln _ I found Dan. and family well. Four bright little black-eyed girls - as happy and rosy-cheeked as you could with to see - fill the house with the clatter & glee of joyous childhood. Dan's health is much im- proved since coming to Neb.; and his practice is increasing finely now.[3]After careful re-examination of my lungs he pronounced me much better, but says I will need lots of patience yet:I am encouraged to think how-ever, tha tI will gain very rapidly now. but do not think I ... |
