[1]1224. [E.?] Street. Washington May 22d 1882.Prof Muir My Dear SirI shall mail you tomorrow “The Cruise of the [illegible]”. (w vols) I had to send away for it and have been delayed in getting it the American Edition is not worth buying. Hope you have not already bought it. If you have please give this to the Doctor with my compliments. Things are all quiet here. I hope to have my report completed by the middle of June. I am looking anxiously for something from you. in your [illegible] The medical man, and the [illegible] have each contributed a valuable paper with illustrations. If you 01069[Page 2][2]would like some colored plates of the plants to accompany your article Please send the plants and I will have some prepared here I have it in such shape now that I can get work of that kind done. Nelson has four colored plates of birds and Doc has some Photo[illegible]graphs(?) of Nekou[illegible] shells &c. I will have about thirty five or forty illustrations in mine. I think some colored plates of plants would be exceeding interesting. I have a good photo of E[illegible] Point including the Beaver Dam. I expect to remain here until my report is published, if I don’t go to Greenland I thought my plans for that trip had fallen through but just now they look better again I am very anxious to go. After that I don’t know what I will do. I can remain on [illegible] here in Washington but am not sure that I like it. You need[Page 3][3]not be surprised if I invite you to take a trip on board the “Rush” with me about October but I don’t care to say anything about it yet. Mrs Hooper is very anxious to return to California and to me it makes very little difference, so now it looks as if I might go back. I am still in your debt financially and will send you another book soon if you want any one specially I will be glad to send it. would you like any of the Government publications? We have all had a turn at the [sick?] mill since coming to Washington but just now we are all right Mrs Hooper joins in kindest regards to ...
