Wedge gl[acier] sends down large stream. Large rocky delta [small sketch]. had to cross. Lovely cassiope beds on logs [and] benches & surging up against stumps & trees. [Sod] of very tough & deep woody stems [firm] as [pine] less than 1/16 in[ch] dia. Each flr[flower] [ ] on its own stem lvs[leaves] all around 2 in[ches] high flrs nodding petals waxy white some pink separate, sepals red pedicel red all facing down hill 8 or 10 to sq inch each making letter S charming plant mixed with woody sax[afrage] lacerated lvs[leaves]. caltha & merryanthus with green glossy lvs Veratrum mtn [aster] 10 ft high young hemlock bronze colored vaccinium potentilla First pure forest of Paton hemlock even seen at sea level It seems old storm-beaten.
