Common following ships |o| S.F. [San Juans or San Francisco] & Seattle. Marbled merlet shot from launch Handsome bird, diver about size of pidgeon Short tipped up tail. Went ashore Fearful smell. Big greasy cannery unutterably dirty frowsy Chinamen. Men in this business are themselves canned.
