The determining cause of the location of these parallel coast fiords was the pre-glacial mountain spurs, the modified, heavily over-swept remnants of which form the walls of the fiords, and the highest of these towards the last of the period nourished and sent down small local glaciers, sculpturing them in some places quite deeply, the tributary canons coming down to tide water.
