the great glacier which formed Yosemite Valley were still in existence, stretching across from the Three Brothers to below the Sentinel, the ice crushing heavily against the forested rocks of the walls. Yet strange as this may appear, to see glaciers in contact with flowery and tree vegetation, I have so long looked at the ancient glaciers of the Sierra that they have been seen as present in the flesh, so that I seemed to be contemplating what I had long been familiar with.
