I remain with kind regards to yourself and family,Very sincerelyMary Titus Hazelton[1]476 N. 3rd St. San Jose [diacritic]May 18, 1895:Dear Mr. Muir,Last evening Mrs. Allen brought me "The Mountains of California" so kindly sent by you.Ah, Mr. Muir, you are really becoming more charitable toward your less fortunate fellowman and woman I well remember when you positively refused the glaciers of Alaska to the lazy San Joseans, as you did not believe in study-01984 [2][study-]ing glaciers while sitting in an easy chair at home.Here you have written us a book so charmingly realistic, that we have only to sit in our rocker with none of the drudgery and weariness of climbing and obtain a near vision of the "Range of Light, the most divinely beautiful of all the mountain chains."During the past week I have been urging my good husband[3]to take a trip to the High Sierras to obtain relief from his troublesome asthma.
