The sugar pines & silver firs of the [region/sierra] [Arm] the Grant Forest of the Kaweah-Yosemite’s valleys gls [glaciers], gl [glacial] meads [meadows] gl [glacial] lakes, fall rejoicing [crystal] [rivers] streams clear as the River of Life [& landscapes sublime] [great architecture] in glorious array & newborn landscapes of sublime gl [glacial] architecture glowing with life bathed in divine light. A’that & a’that & [twice] as [Muckle’s] that [and where you be a true Alice in Wonderland] Write & tell me how much time you have for excursions & when it will be convenient for you to see me. [I can be in the city from] anytime from 9:30 to 3 o’clock will suit me. Why [can’t] not make our house your headquarters instead of a city hotel? You could reach the city by the Santa Fe from M [Muir] Station every morning shortly after 9 o’clock or [afternoon] 1 o’clock in the afternoon [by the Santa Fe from Muir Station] & return by 6pm by a train which leaves the city at 4:20. The Palace Hotel always seems to me a dreadful place where multitudes of all sorts of people chafe & grind against one another like boulders in a pothole on the mtns [mountains] when the snow is melting. Anyhow write & tell me [how] about the time you have & in Yo [Yosemite] your [your] long planned trip I’m sorry to have moved [ ] [ ] Came to mind & I wished then you had been with me. I am now at work on the last of a series of wild park articles [wh] to be collected [ ] [ ] published in book form by the Houghton Mifflin Co & wh [which] I hope to get off my hands ere long to be followed by [a lot of others] Sierra & Alaska [books] things as fast as my slow pen interrupted [by a 1,000 insignificant things] can be spurred to go. https://scholarlycommons.pacific.edu/jmn-ya/1015/thumbnail.jpg |
