Summary: | mothers seemed to be proud to have their babies pictured. Walked with the Osbornes to the edge of the timber over the ground sluiced hillside, a wondrous ruin of tree roots and cobble piles, overgrown with berry bushes, baccinium and rubus now ripe and grass, epilobium, gold thread, cornel, berry, etc. Sailed past the Auk and Eagle Glaciers, up Lynn Canal. Glorious, both fine glaciers, finely displayed. The Eagle, two grand tributaries, uniting near front (see sketch) the mountains on either side of Lynn Canal loaded with glaciers. Every size and form as if on display. At head of Lynn Canal, converging glaciers and their valleys showing cause of size and trend of the canal. Aug 10. At Muir Glacier. Nearly upset in landing from the boat by a berg wave, as we lay in the trough of its breakers. https://scholarlycommons.pacific.edu/jmj-all/3475/thumbnail.jpg |
