Long difficult trail in need of improvement. Arrive at Yosemite hotel at 11am started at 8. Letters from Louise, Wanda and Helen and telegraphed to Louise arrival from 2nd ex. to High Sierra. Great improvement in health, comprehensive appetite enjoy an easy chair now - enjoyment purchased by rocky brushy toil. Aug 30. Slept late and fairly well - took slight cold from sleeping in room - walked to store - very sahara of road. Fire in morning grateful - very warm in sunshine. Walked to Lamons old orchard, still fruitful in apples and berries keeping sweet the good mans memory no prung no culture of any kind rents with cottage for 50 per year Stoneman H 12 per yr Glascock 800. Sauntered up the moraine from Ill. And Nevada canyon, some large blocks perhaps shaken out ice. Have seen others similar in Norway and other Yos. Same near Hutchings old hotel. Fine encouraging improvements about Nevada rapids and Happy Islands. Aspedium border along island channels, maple, alder, dogwood tall shady, rich soil no fire Islands of washed rock with a few huge bowlders - Azalia 12 ft high few pteres goodyera, dogwood the king here. Aug 31. In the p.m. took a walk in search of my lost cabin as it is now called - discovered after tangly search in the angle formed by the Tenaya creek with the river about 200 yards above the apers, and about 15 or 20 yards from the bank of Tenaya creek. It is completely hidden like a birds nest in a charming luxuriant growth of alder. Balm of galead pine fir and libocedrus with undergrowth of rubus nutkanus, dogwood, azalea, tall grasses, sedges and the finest vase-like clumps of ferns asplenium folix foemina 5 ft dia. and high, mosses etc. The cabin is about 14 X 16 with sharp roof ...
