of various grades are laid to rest along shore in the abandoned channel of the retreating glacier, and the coarse gravel and boulders in the moraine to be wasted out of shape in after time by the various post-glacial agents. The main portion of all the material removed by the ice in mountain sculpture is here, and perhaps in most rocks, carried far off and spread abroad in the sea. This explains the inadequate quantity of visible traceable moraine matter found in connection with profound canons and heavily degraded ranges. In the case of the glacier under consideration there appears to be little or no terminal moraine only a bank eight or ten feet high close up against the foot of the ice wall and thro’ an almost level draggled slope to the bay; but were this glacier to come to rest on a mountain side, the moraine would appear {Sketch: Ornamental remnant of avalanche snow embracing bright green talus garden. } https://scholarlycommons.pacific.edu/jmj-all/2431/thumbnail.jpg
