You are [unmeasuriable?] in your kindness to me & you hilm my fate more than all the world beside. I am approaching a kind of f[illegible]ting time in this mountain work & I want very much to see you. All say [underlined: write], but I don't know how or what, & besides I want to see North & South & the midland basins & the sea coast & all the lake basins & the canons. Also the Alps of every country & the continental glaciers of Greenland. before I write the book we have been speaking of & all this will require a dozen yrs or twenty, & money the question is what will I write now etc. I have learned the alphabet of ice & mtn structure here & I think I can read fast in other countries.
