Introduction: The gherkin because of its high content in fiber, and low in total fat is suitable as hipolipidemic. Objective: Compare the effect on the lipid profile between gherkin and/or atorvastatin in Rattus rattus var albinus. Material and Methods: A randomized study was realized. It worked with 36 Rattus rattus var albinus males; were divided in 3 experimental groups (GE) and 1 group control (GC). Subjected to 3 weeks of conditioning, 2 weeks of high fat diet (PIG); later I administered gherkin and / or atorvastatin to GE. The lipid profile in each stage was measured and it was applied to the test of variance analysis and test of Duncan. Results: In the HDL level there was a greater decrease in the CG (23.22 mg/dl); in LDL level there was a greater decrease with the treatment of in gherkin and atorvastatin (GE3) (20.05 mg/dl) where p <0.01; In triglycerides there is not significant variation (p> 0.05); in HDL there was a greater decrease in the GE 3 (29.33 mg/dl) where p <0.01. Conclusions: The consumption of gherkins and/or atorvastatin has a partial hipolipidemic effect in Rattus rattus var albinus Introducción: El pepinillo debido a su alto contenido en fibra, y su bajo contenido en grasas totales es apropiado como hipolipemiante. Objetivo: Comparar el efecto de la ingesta de pepinillo y/o atorvastatina sobre el perfil lipídico en Rattus rattus var albinus. Material y Métodos: Se realizó un estudio aleatorizado. Se trabajó con 36 especímenes machos; dividido en 3 grupos experimentales (GE) y un grupo control (GC). Sometidos a 3 semanas de acondicionamiento, 2 semanas de alimentación rica en grasa (PIG); se administró pepinillo y/o atorvastatina a los GE. Se midió el perfil lipídico en cada etapa y se aplicó la Prueba de Análisis de Varianza y prueba de Duncan. Resultados: En el nivel de HDL hubo una mayor disminución en el GC (23.22 mg/dl); en el LDL se observa una mayor disminución con el tratamiento de pepinillo y atorvastatina (GE 3) (20.05 mg/dl) donde p< 0.01; en los triglicéridos no hay variación significativa (p>0.05); en el colesterol total se observa una mayor disminución en el GE 3 (29.33 mg/dl) donde p< 0.01.
