| Summary: | This research aimed to determine the effect of the ethanolic extract of Jatropha macrantha Müll. Arg on blood pressure in Rattus novergicus variety albinus. The design was an experimental type of growing stimulus and was developed in the laboratories of the Department of Biological Chemistry and Animal Physiology of the Faculty of Biological Sciences of the National University of Trujillo. The stalks of Jatropha macrantha and 20 male albino rats Sprague Dawley strain of 300 ± 20 g were used as biological material. Four groups were formed, one control treated with PSS and three treated with the extract of J. macrantha at doses of 50, 100 and 200 mg / kg . There were changes in systolic blood pressure, which decreased by an average of 29,5 mmHg at 30 minutes at doses of 100 and 200 mg / kg, it was also observed that in rats treated with the extract of J. macrantha; diastolic blood pressure decreased by 19 mmHg at 30 min at doses of 100 and 200 mg / kg, and differences between treatments with extract were evidenced. It was concluded that the ethanolic extract of the stems of Jatropha macrantha Müll. Arg at doses of 100 and 200 mg / kg have arterial hypotensive effect in Rattus novergicus variety albinus, the dose of 100 mg / kg being the most acceptable. Esta investigación tuvo como propósito determinar el efecto del extracto etanólico de Jatropha macrantha Müll. Arg sobre la presión arterial en Rattus novergicus variedad albinus. El diseño fue de tipo experimental de estímulo creciente y se desarrolló en los laboratorios del Departamento de Química Biológica y Fisiología Animal de la Facultad de Ciencias Biológicas de la Universidad Nacional de Trujillo. Se emplearon como material biológico los tallos de Jatropha macrantha y 20 ratas albinas macho cepa Sprague Dawley de 300 ± 20 g . Se formaron 4 grupos, un testigo al que se le administró SSF y tres tratados con el extracto de J. macrantha a dosis de 50, 100 y 200 mg/Kg . Se presentaron cambios en la presión arterial sistólica, la cual disminuyó en promedio 29,5 mmHg a los 30 minutos en las dosis de 100 y 200 mg/kg, también se observó que en las ratas tratadas con el extracto de J. macrantha; disminuyó la presión arterial diastólica en 19 mmHg a los 30 min a las dosis de 100 y 200 mg/kg, y se evidencian diferencias entre los tratamientos con el extracto. Se concluyó que el extracto etanólico de los tallos de Jatropha macrantha Müll. Arg a dosis de 100 y 200 mg/Kg poseen efecto hipotensor arterial en Rattus novergicus variedad albinus, siendo la dosis de 100 mg/Kg la más aceptable. Tesis
