In this image by Courtney Googe, a walrus sits comfortably in a room while a lion stands outside the seemingly oblivious walrus’s window. Fables including opposing animals are plentiful, commonly including trickery and mischief of one to create gain for the other. Using animals in this way usually results in a moral teaching or lesson learned, while highlighting fault or weakness in human character. The Lion and the Walrusis a print created as part of the 2012 Wild Ink Print Exchange. Faculty and students from the University of Alaska Anchorage, University of Montana, University of Wyoming, and University of North Dakota took part in the exchange. Googe created this work as a student of printmaking at the University of Wyoming.
