Maestría en Traducción Inglés-Español El trabajo que se presenta a continuación expone la propuesta traductológica de un texto narrativo de marinería y el análisis de los problemas de semántica léxica que representaron un reto al realizar dicha traducción. Asimismo, el trabajo muestra como la semántica léxica es uno de los principales factores que pone a prueba la competencia traductológica. El trabajo toma como punto de referencia la traducción de seis capítulos del libro The Whale Warriors, en los cuales se narra las hazañas del grupo ecologista Sea Shepherd en su intento por detener la caza ilegal de ballenas en la Antártida. El análisis traductológico abarca los problemas de semántica léxica presentes en el discurso y en los intertextos; asimismo, discute lo referente a la pérdida semántica y de qué manera esto afecta la competencia traductológica. De esta forma, el trabajo propone facilitar material relacionado a la traducción de textos narrativos de marinería y proveer soluciones que faciliten futuras traducciones relacionadas al tema. This graduation project addresses lexical semantic problems that represented a challenge when translating a narrative text about seafaring. It also shows how lexical semantic memory tests translation competence. The project is based on the translation of six chapters taken from the book The Whale Warriors.2 The book relates the journey of writer Peter Heller with the Sea Shepherd, a marine conservation organization, to the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary to stop illegal whaling. The analysis covers lexical semantic problems found when translating the corpus, and the relationship between semantic loss and translation competence. In this way, the main objective of this project is to point out significant aspects regarding the translation of narrative texts about seafaring, and to provide translators with solutions that can enable them to overcome difficulties when dealing with this type of text.
