Intérêt potentiel de nouvelles techniques d'élevage ostréicole : approche zootechnique et biologique (Programme NOUSYSTOS)

The SMIDAP is testing, with the NOUSYSTOS program, the potential interest of several new structures for oyster farming of Crassostrea gigas (Thunberg, 1793) compared to the classical model (culture trestle table). The 4 structures tested are CNG’s XXL bag, NODUS and CGA’s mobile floating bags and He...

The 4 structures tested are CNG’s XXL bag, NODUS and CGA’s mobile floating bags and Hexcyl Systems’ Australian basket (on long line system). The rearing performances are compared to the classical system (control) and to the results of tests already carried out by SMIDAP and other French and international institutes. The (preliminary) results of the last survey in mid-August show a general superiority of the new rearing systems: NODUS and CGA from a qualitative point of view (flesh rate) in rearing, CNG with a better rearing yield and HEXCYL qualitatively and quantitatively. In half-farming, the oysters in CGA bags have a lower rearing yield than the conventional system, whereas the Australian Hexcyl baskets have a much higher yield than the conventional system. A calculation of the production costs was carried out on the Hexcyl halffarming : the payback time is 6 years (with a reduction of the cycle time of 20%). Concerning the other systems, the calculation of economic profitability cannot yet be made : the rearing cycle is not finished and the price of certain bags is not yet fixed by the manufacturers. Once these data are acquired, tests on the most promising systems will be carried out on a larger scale. In view of the prices of the systems (known or estimated), at this stage of the follow-up, the tests could be renewed on the CNG and Hexcyl systems in rearing and Hexcyl in half-rearing. Concerning the NODUS and CGA systems, the economic interest will depend on the valorization of a high quality production (meat rate higher than 16%) knowing the valorization channels that are not very widespread or exploited by the oyster farmers today.
