The Atlantic climate features oscillations over multidecadal periods (Atlantic Multidecadal Variability). Nowadays, the mechanisms that govern the Atlantic Multidecadal Variability (AMV) are poorly understood; however, a widely accepted paradigm is that the Atlantic Multidecadal Variability is primarily driven by coordinated changes in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), an important component of the global ocean circulation carrying large amounts of heat from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere. By the analysis of 6 pre-industrial simulations we have observed that the relation between the AMV and the AMOC is non-stationary showing large fluctuations in their cross-correlation index that often occur abruptly. We analysize the AMV/AMOC non-stationary variability characteristics, aiming to understand how they are related with the AMV-AMOC non-stationary relation.
