Økt turisme i Nigardsbreen naturreservat - Et tveegget sverd?

Delproblemstillinger: a. This master thesis is about how to manage future growth in tourism in “Nigardsbreen naturreservat” (Nigardsbreen nature reserve), seen from the perspective of the tourism and government stakeholders in the area. More precisely the following main research questions are investigated: Tourism growth as an independent variable gives following research question: 1. What challenges emerge by the growing tourism in Nigardsbreen nature reserve, regard to the natural resources, the visitor experience and from the managerial perspective; and what solutions are possible seen from the local tourism industry and governmental stakeholders´ perspectives? Tourism growth as a dependent variable gives following research question: 2. What challenges emerge by glacial changes and delta growth for the tourism growth? Research sub questions: a. What challenges do the stakeholders think are important? b. What do the stakeholders think are the driving forces behind these challenges? c. What kind of solutions do the stakeholders think are at hand? d. How can the tourism and local governmental stakeholders cooperate in order to find solutions to these challenges? This study has applied an explorative research design and a qualitative method. When collecting data, I have done a document analysis, and semi-structured interviews of nine respondents: six from the tourism sector and three from the governmental sector. The results show that important challenges (in order of natural resources, social and managerial) are glacial changes, more people/new tourist groups and little information. Important causes are climate changes, heavy marketing, and the question regarding who is responsible for what. Recommended solutions are better infrastructure/paths, product customization, expansion of the season, better distribution of responsibilities, improved information and endorsement of regulation of tourists. In regard of cooperation, the different stakeholders want to remain the cooperation, but they want to exchange more knowledge. The respondents agree that Nigardsbreen glacier is crucial for the tourism industry in the Jostedalen valley, and they are positive to development of tourism in protected areas. M-REIS |
