Licenciatura como Médico Veterinario y Zootecnista Essential acids have been part of our diet since the beginning of human life. In the last 20 years, much research has been done on the metabolism of polyunsaturated fatty acids, mainly omega-3 fatty acids, which were first discovered in 1970 when Danish doctors observed that Greenland Eskimos had an incidence exceptionally low risk of heart disease and arthritis, despite consumption of a high-fat diet (Simopoulos, 1999; Daley et al., 2010). Currently they are used as supplements or supplements in the diet for different purposes, among them are: improving blood circulation by reducing the amount of cholesterol, improving the immune response, reducing arthritis problems, among others (Nettleto, 1991 Simopoulos, 1999). However, being essential fatty acids (Nettleto, 1991), the beneficial effects of their consumption could be reflected in other physiological aspects such as the different processes involved in reproduction. Plasma membranes are known to be made up of different fatty acids, in addition to proteins and cholesterol (Penny et al., 2002), so that the addition of omega-3 contained in fish oil could improve the quality of fish. plasma membranes of both male and female gametes and consequently improve embryonic quality. In rabbits, the supply of essential fatty acids occurs through the consumption of forage (vegetables), and due to changes in the production systems from extensive to intensive, greater nutritional contributions are required to cover said demand (Lleonart, 2005).
