Description
Summary:First editions of each of Franklin's inland expeditions. In the first expedition, Franklin attempted to explore overland from Hudson's Bay to the mouth of the DCoppermine River. The journey, however, proved disastrous, survived by less than half of the original party. They did, however, manage to reach the Arctic Sea. His second expedition three years later again explored inland, this time down the Mackenzie River to the Arctic Sea. While it had been planned to coincide with Parry and Beechey reaching the western coast, Franklin did not make it all the way to the Icy Cape. Nevertheless, his second expedition provided new cartographic information on the previously unchartered region.
