Description
Nemci so takoj po prevzemu oblasti začeli ukrepati proti narodu, začeli so z raznarodovanjem, spreminjanjem mestne podobe, manjkalo ni niti nasilja. Daily life in the town of Maribor between 1941-1945 is a diploma thesis that considers the view of life of the population both in the light of Marburger Zeitung, as well as in the post-war literature. The thesis includes testimonials of people whose experience was put on paper by themselves or somebody else. The occupation is certainly shown differently in all three aspects, so the Marburger Zeitung propagates Nazism, the post-war literature states the facts as they were and the testimonials adding life to all this, which puts the reader also emotionally in that time. The year 1941 was a huge turning point for the population of Maribor. From cheering to King Peter II Karađorđević on one day, they had to almost overnight start cheering to Adolf Hitler, a completely new regime in a completely other language. Soon also those that had some hopes and believes that the occupation is not so bad for their country, realized and even felt the horror of the new regime. The Germans started with their measures against the people immediately after taking over, which included denationalization, changing the town appearance, where also violence was present. A huge help in implementing these actions was the fifth column, a week ago a friend, now an enemy, which would sell you to the authorities for any price.
