The original Operational Street Pollution Model (OSPM), developed at the National Environmental research Institute in Denmark, which is a computer program written in FORTRAN code was studied and then implemented into a system dynamics model using Powersim. Whereas, the original program was DOS-based and frequently required the user to edit files manually, the new system dynamics version and the companion VR progrnm that wns rlew~loperl lets the 11ser to ei:isily r.hi=inge factors r:mrl parameters in a more user friendly environment. Besides the user can also monitor the calculations that are being performed in real-time environment. It was also ensured that the new system dynamics model is kept completely compatible with the original FORTRAN version as regards the file types that are used. The two versions of the model were then tested on a common data set obtained from the street canyon Jagtvej. Runs of both versions of the models were performed with the two models having the same parameterisations. The results obtained show that the new system dynamics model gives the same identical results as the original FORTRAN version. The advantages with the new system dynamics model rely on the fact that it is more flexible when it comes to change the structure of model to suit other street canyons whereas it can also be applied to other locations.
