Description
Summary:This data set consists of gridded radar-derived surface mass balance calculated for nine sites: eight ice rises along the Dronning Maud Land coast and the Dome Fuji site. For each location, the gridded surface mass balance (SMB) is given for three different square grid resolutions: points every 250 m, every 100 m and every 50 m, and an additional file provides the ages of the surface and isochrone ages. Each individual .nc data set provides: (1) the gridded SMB as a function of xy coordinate (ps71 polar stereographic) and time (between successive pairs of radar isochrones) and (2) the spatial masks that can be used to reproduce the results described in the associated publication, for the grid resolution selected. Note that the raw radar-derived SMB data can be found in the original publications and data centers, references are all provided in Cavitte et al., (2023), Table 1. The data set published here is the gridded data product: i.e. the SMB record of each grid cell is the average of the SMB records for all the radar data points that fall within that grid cell. Further details and uncertainties can be found in the associated publication. Naming convention of the SMB nc files: aa_griddedSMB_resxx aa = site naming convention as in the associated publication xx = square grid size in meters Each individual .csv file provides the surface age (at the time of collection of the radar survey) and the radar isochrone ages from top to bottom, which can be used to assign the gridded SMB data to time intervals. Naming convention of the age csv files: aa_ages.csv aa = site naming convention as in the associated publication Linked publication: Cavitte et al., 2023, Investigating the spatial representativeness of East Antarctic ice cores: A comparison of ice core and radar-derived surface mass balance over coastal ice rises and Dome Fuji, The Cryosphere.
