Characterization of permafrost soil exchange properties and quantification of stocks in soil exchangeable base cations

This database presents soil exchange properties of a typical moist acidic tundra at Eight Mile Lake, in Interior Alaska. Seven soil profiles (up to 120 cm deep) were cored along a permafrost degradation gradient (from Minimal to Extensive permafrost degradation area) in August 2019. In total, 85 soi...

Seven soil profiles (up to 120 cm deep) were cored along a permafrost degradation gradient (from Minimal to Extensive permafrost degradation area) in August 2019. In total, 85 soil samples were collected, encompassing active layer and permafrost soil layers. We characterized the total and exchangeable soil fraction with measurements of soil pH, organic carbon content (% OC), soil cationic exchange capacity (CEC), and concentrations in total and exchangeable element (Ca, K, Mg, Na). Furthermore, we approximated the soil bulk density, CEC density, and stocks in total and exchangeable base cations, and we calculated the TRB weathering index.
