La croissance démographique, le surpeuplement des logements, les pressions de développement urbain et économique ainsi que le réchauffement climatique provoquant le dégel du pergélisol sont des facteurs qui incitent à mieux planifier l'aménagement du territoire dans les communautés inuites du nord du Canada. Une meilleure connaissance des conditions locales du pergélisol favorise une meilleure prise de décision et, par le fait même, favorise en partie l'adaptation des communautés face au réchauffement climatique tout en les aidant à planifier l’expansion que commande l’immense besoin en logements. L’étude des types de fondation par rapport aux conditions du pergélisol dans la communauté d’Inukjuak souligne la nécessité de l’intégration des connaissances sur le pergélisol dans le processus d’aménagement du territoire dans la communauté. The rising population, overcrowded housing, the pressure of urban and economic development and the warming climate are all factors that create the necessity of better land use planning in the communities of Nunavik, Canada. In this context, the link between land use planning and permafrost knowledge is strong. A better understanding of the permafrost conditions supports better decision making and therefore promotes a better adaptation of the communities facing the challenge of climate change and better planning of village growth due to more housing development. The study of the foundation types on permafrost terrain in the community of Inukjuak shows the necessity of the technical integration of the permafrost in the land use planning process in the community.
