The sites can be classified in terms of backarc basin evolution , from less evolved stages dominated by rifting and incipient spreading (Bransfield Basin), to the maturest stages characterized by organized backarc seafloor spreading, like the North Fiji Basin ridges Las Cuencas Central y Oriental de Bransfield (NO Peninsula Antartica) y las Dorsales Tripartita, Central y Sur-Pandora de la Cuenca Nor-Fidjiana (Pacifico SO) han sido estudiadas a partir de datos de batimetría de multihaz y métodos geofísicos.
