This kind of planning and time-management was vital for hunter-gatherers living across the Arctic. But for those Russian hunters from the White Sea area (Pomors) who went to Svalbard on hunting expeditions, extra complexity was added to this schedule: extraction of commercial trade goods. They had to manage a balance between subsistence needs and the commercial hunting schedule.
