Högna Sigurðardóttir se cargó de cultura arquitectónica contemporánea para pensar de nuevo, desde esa posición de “exilio” que vivió en París, la arquitectura propia de su latitud de origen y que guardaba con nostalgia entre sus recuerdos de Vestmannaeyjar. Como ella misma dice en su poema “Why do my senses range…”, «La mancha misteriosa del origen nunca se destine, se hace más y más fuerte con el paso del tiempo». La vivienda que realiza en la calle Bakkaflöt en los años 60 es un buen ejemplo para repensar desde posicionamientos proyectuales. La arquitectura gravitatoria vikinga, primeras construcciones islandesas, vista a través de la épica lente brutalista “as found” que se carga de significados en una experiencia ambigua y contradictoria de marcado impacto poético. Högna Sigurðardóttir charged herself with contemporary architectural culture to think again, from that position of “exile” that she lived in Paris, the architecture of her latitud of origin that she kept with nostalgia among her memories of Vestmannaeyjar, and well drawn by her neighbor Júlíana Sveinsdóttir. As she herself says in her poem "Why do my senses range.", «The mysterious mark of the origin never fades, it grows stronger and stronger through the flow of time». The house that she made in Bakkaflöt Street in the 60s is a good example to rethink from architectural design positions. The gravitational Viking architecture, first constructions in Iceland, seen through the epic brutalist lens “as found”; charged with meanings in an ambiguous and contradictory experience with a marked poetic impact.
