| Summary: | This work intends to demonstrate the creation and use of one of the spaces destined for the practice of sports and leisure activities in the city of São Paulo - the Parque Antarctica - as well as the urban interventions which arose in the west of the city during the late nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. From this point of departure, we analyze the relationship between industrialization and the spreading of ideas regarding sports and leisure, and how these components ended up being not only fundamentally important in the creation of spaces destined for these kind of practices in the city of São Paulo, but also for the transformation of the region as a whole. Este trabalho tem a intenção de demonstrar a criação e utilização de um dos espaços destinados à prática do lazer e atividades desportivas na cidade de São Paulo, o Parque Antarctica, bem como as intervenções urbanísticas surgidas na região oeste da cidade no final do século XIX até meados do século XX. A partir disto, analisaremos a relação existente entre a industrialização e a difusão das noções de esporte e de lazer na produção de espaços próprios a essas práticas na cidade de São Paulo e como tal difusão contribuiu para a transformação de uma determinada região.
