Description
Summary:Order: Scorpiones. Distribution: Everywhere except Antarctica. Diet: Carnivore, scorpions feed on other insects. When food is scarce, scorpions are able to slow their metabolism to one-third the typical rate for arthropods. This conserves oxygen and allows some species to live on as little as a single insect per year. Reproduction: Most arachnids are oviparous, however scorpions are ovoviparous. This means the young are born one by one and spend at least one moulting cycle one their mother's back. The scorplings are unable to survive without their mother until they moult at least once. Life Span: 3-8 years. For unknown reasons, scorpions are fluorescent under a black light. http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/bugs/scorpion/?rptregcta=reg_free_np&rptregcampaign=20131016_rw_membership_n1p_us_se_w#finished /// (Internal Comments) Education Collection addition (collection scope and quality) 6/2014 RLF
