The map identifies important water features, towns, and islands along the coasts. Includes compass rose and rhumb lines. Scale not given, derived from latitude lines. "Engraved for Bankes's New System of Geography Published by Royal Authority"--Top margin. "By the King's royal license and authority" appears on publication title page, later editions do not have this statement on title page and the engraved statement at top of map has been erased--(Maps in British atlases, R.W. Shirley). Map is from the same plates as those in Middleton's New system of geography. Publisher's information, edition, publishing dates from McCorkle's carto-bibliography. Appears in: 1st and 2nd published editions of state 1, Banke's New royal authentic and complete system of universal geography, antient and modern, published 1790?, map no. 9.
