Summary: | The Antarctic filamentous fungi were isolated from exposed soils of the Collins glacier retreat (Fildes Peninsula, King George Island). Extremophile fungi are of great interest in several areas, including medical, environmental, and agrochemical. The isolates used in the present work are those that previously presented higher resistance to ultraviolet B radiation, being the main objectives the selection of the most resistant specimens and the growth evaluation under different environmental factors. For that end, experiments under ultraviolet B and C radiation, nutrient and oligotrophic culture media, osmotic stress, and different temperatures and pH were carried out. With these tests it was possible to verify which fungi were resistant to each situation and the results revealed that some isolates showed positive results in more than one type of conditions. The data obtained in the present study could help in researches and future experiments with the Antarctic fungi, opening perspectives to studies involving mutation (due to the changes that occurred in samples in some experiments), to rethink culture methods (some fungi grew better at pH different from the pH of the culture medium used as control), besides raising discussions and aggregating information about these fungi, which are still little studied Os fungos filamentosos estudados foram isolados de solos expostos do recuo da geleira Collins (Península Fildes, Ilha Rei George). ... |
