Palavras chave: Ciclo de narrativas sobre Siegfried, Gênero, Poder Abstract The Nibelungenlied and Volsunga Saga are two of the most important books of the circle of narratives about the hero Siegfried (Sigurd). They were written in the regions that correspond, respectively, to Austria in the end of the 12th century and Iceland in the 13th century, and they were based on traditional stories of the Germanic Migration Period. Not only have these regions several cultural differences, but they also produced distinct literary genres, which reflect on the representation of the characters in these narratives. It is important to point out that the Volsunga Saga is a legendary saga (fornaldarsaga) and represents a reality that has taken place before the colonization of Iceland. Therefore, many aspects of the Pre-Christian Nordic religion are still present in this saga, whereas The Nibelungenlied is a courtly epic, which was written in a Christian society that rejects the paganism. In this sense, not only is this narrative adjusted to courtly values, but also the elements that refer to paganism or to the legendary universe have systematically been taken out. Consequently, the nature of such narratives is mirrored on the characters of these works and their destinies. The tactics employed by women to exercise power will be observed in this paper, in a way that will allow one to visualize some of the differences, or similarities, in the representation of feminine characters in each one of those societies.
